Dudley Spade was born in Hillsdale, Michigan and grew up with his parents and brother on a small farm in southern Hillsdale County. Dudley’s dad Victor served in World War II and is retired from Essex Wire in Hillsdale. His mother Mirabel was a school teacher for over 30 years and was a 4H leader for over 35 years. Victor and Mirabel raised their two boys in a home that stressed values of family, community, honesty, and treating everyone fairly. The Spade sons have stayed true to their family values, with older brother Doug serving three terms as State Representative from the 57th district. Dudley, after spending his entire career of 26 years working on behalf of Michigan’s children and families, is now serving in his first term as State Representative.
Before election to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2004, Dudley was recognized for his work as a child advocate. In 1994, he was awarded the first annual Michigan Federation of Private Child and Family Agencies’ Peer Award for outstanding dedication in service to Michigan’s families and children. After his first year in the Legislator, Dudley received the Visionary Freshmen Legislator award from Michigan’s Children.
Dudley grew up on a family farm and agriculture has always been a big part of his life. On June 27, 2006, the Michigan Agri-Business Association recognized eight Legislators for their hard work and dedication to Michigan’s agricultural industry. Dudley was one of those selected to receive the Outstanding Legislator of the Year Award.
Dudley and his wife Nancy live just outside of Tipton in Lenawee County with their son Kyle and daughters Sarah and Katie. Nancy is a Speech and Language Pathologist for the Lenawee Intermediate School District. Dudley and his family are members of the First Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh.
